Literature Text

This book is all about Georgia Nicolson and her life. She is in the early stages of teenager-dom and is learning how to cope with life. She thinks that she is an ugly person who will never find a boyfriend, but that couldn’t be further from the truth. Along with her best friend Jas, she has many encounters with the male kind, some in which she regrets. Georgia lives with her mother and father (which she calls Mutti and Vati), her little sister Libby and her homicidal cat Angus,  in England. One day when she and Jas are merely shopping in their local supermarket they meet one of the guys working in the deli, whose name is Tom. Jas is instantly smitten, but Georgia thinks her infatuation is absolutely ridiculous, that is until she meets Tom’s older brother, who she becomes instantly attracted to and who she calls SG (short for ‘Sex God’) until she discovers his real name, Robbie. There is just one problem, Robbie has been dating one of the rudest, meanest girls at her school, Lindsay. So Georgia falls in love with Robbie, even though she knows he has a girlfriend and even though during this period she has many other flings with guys. But all’s fair in love and war, Robbie soon realizes what a terrible person Lindsay is and dumps her. Georgia is ecstatic. She becomes even more ecstatic when Robbie comes over to her house and announces his love for her. Just when Georgia thinks that her life is perfect, her mother also has an announcement to make. That she’s just booked tickets to New Zealand, for a long term holiday. What is Georgia going to do? Well, we’ll have to find out, by reading the sequel that Louise Rennison has already written ‘It’s Ok, I’m Wearing Really Big Knickers!’

Here is a passage from the book that I enjoyed:

‘Home, exhausted from laughing. My ribs hurt.  Slim(*)  has made me big on cloakroom duty for next term but I don’t care, it was worth it. Well… here is what happened. It was during double Physics and it was just one of those afternoons when you can’t stop laughing and you feel a bit hysterical. For most of the lesson I had been yelling, “Jawohl, Herr Kommandant!” and clocking my heels together every time Herr Kamyer asked if we understood what he had been explaining. We were doing the molecular structure of atoms and how they vibrate. Herr Kamyer was illustrating his point with the aid of some billiard balls on a tea towel on his desk. It was giving me the giggles anyway, and then I put my hand up because I had thought of a good joke. I put my hand up with my finger pointing forward like in, ‘Who ate all the pies?’ and when Herr Kamyer said, “Yes?” I said, “Herr Kamyer, what part does the tea towel play in the molecular structure?” That is when Herr Kamyer made his fateful mistake- he said, “Ach, no, I merely use the tea towel to keep my balls still.” It was pandemonium. I could not stop laughing. You know when you really, really should stop laughing because you will get into dreadful trouble if you don’t, but you still can’t stop? Well I had that.”
                          (*Slim is Georgia’s principal)

I would rate this book ten out of five stars, I enjoyed it that much! I have never laughed out loud when reading a book as much as I did when I was reading this. When I was reading this in our lesson in the library I was obtaining some very strange looks and comments from fellow students because I found this book so amusing, and when reading it late at night in my bedroom, I was laughing so hard that I woke my mother up in the next room. I have never experienced this before with a book and that’s what made me enjoy it so much. This was recommended to me by a friend, and boy was she right? It was a pleasure to read, and first thing on Monday morning I am going to the library and borrowing the sequel, ‘It’s Ok, I’m Wearing Really Big Knickers!’, and then when I’m finished reading that one, I want to read the next one in the series, “Knocked Out By Nunga- Nungas.” I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys a good laugh, and generally, a good book.
Here is a review of my all-time favourite novel: 'Angus, Thongs and Full Frontal Snogging' by Louise Rennison. It's the BEST and FUNNIEST book I have ever read, I really recommend that everyone reads it! :):):)
